A massive turnout of windsurf lovers attended the ‘Red Bull Rockets’ competition, held at the coast of the beautiful sea village of Santa Lucía. An electronic meter — equipped with innovative technology that follows and reproduces the movement in 3D and in real time , calculated the height of each jump executed by the participants, whom during the whole competition had it placed in one of their arms. This new technique allows for more accurate scoring of riders and helped register the hight of the jumps objectively. www.redbull.com

Windsurfing in extreme 40+ knot winds at Celilo in the Columbia Gorge! Sailors: Don Thompson (on green 3.0), Ben Thompson (on red & white 3.4), and Tony Mills (on black & white 3.5).

This is footage taken in Juno Beach, FL in January 2010. I was doing a demo for 2010 RRD windsurf and SUP gear there. I’m the sailor with the white sail and board. The board is an 8′5″ Wassup and the sail a 5′6″ WaveVogue. The board was supposed to come with footstraps inserts but unfortunately it didn’t. I still had a great time on it but I would have had more fun and more control with straps in those conditions. In yellow, local sailor Robert Peters shows how it’s done on the Diamond 9′6″ Classic and the SuperStyle 6.3. Thanks Rob for the great show! Unfortunately the videographer showed up with his camera later in the afternoon after Rob and I had been on the water for several hours already.
