I have discovered extensive blistering , chips and cracking in what i imagine to be the gel coat on the base of my F2 xantos windsurfing board. I’m unsure how to proceed, whether to strip the coat (via sanding or scraping?) down to the fibreglass and reapply with a brush (any tips? never done this before) or ignore the blistering and just patch the parts where the coat has already flaked off.

I just want to know because I would like to try it, but I don’t know how dangerous it is for a newcomer. Any safety tips also appreciated.

There are two course options I was deciding which one to choose:
1) 3 hours, 1 to 1 private session with possibility of getting a certificate if I do well…
2) 3 hour sessions everyday for 5 days, in a group of 8 people and more likely to get a certificate

The reason i’m not that keen on the second option is because I really, really, really don’t want to be in a group because I get too selections. I can swim well and am reasonably fit. However I need to certificate because that’s the only way I can go windsurfing on holiday.

Which option should I go for?
On average, how long does it take to to learn windsurfing (the basics)?
How much progress do you t honk i’ll make with the first option?

Thanks soooo much

I am a 17 yr, 125 lb, 5′8″ male who would like to learn to windsurf. I live in Holland, Michigan where I will start out on a small inland lake, then move on to Lake Michigan once I get better. Apparently the average wind here is around 10 mph. There is nowhere to rent equipment so I will have to buy some. Because of this it will need to last me a while, so I don’t want something that is just a beginner’s set. What size sail and board should I get?

I’m headed out to HI this winter and want to do more beach stuff. What would you say is more fun for a beginner (I snowboard, but that probably won’t help very much)- Parasurfing, windsurfing or regular surfing? Which is cheaper to rent/take lessons? I imagine Waikiki is the best place for a beginner to get regular surfing lessons, but are there any other spots I should consider if I want to try the others?

I am looking for a full children’s windsurfing kit as a Christmas present for my nephews in the region of £100. I’m not sure if they even make them anymore, so the chances are it would have to be used (but good condition).

Any help appreciated, thanks!

I am a beginner, windsurfing on area lakes with a used 12-foot Obrien, 5.4 sail. I can only do it with the mast between my feet. Why are the footstraps so far toward the back? With my feet in that position, I could not even reach the boom or the mast, and could not possibly hold a steady direction. I can’t get anywhere near them without falling off the board. I just don’t get what the footstraps are for, or why they are so far back, or how I would ever use them. Help?

Is windsurfing gowing to make my tennis elbow worse?
I was playing tennis about 2 mouths ago and after the game all was good but about 2 days after it started to heart and two months later it still hearts so much.
I have not tried to play tennis as even picking up a book hearts so much.
However when windsurfing it dos not seem to heart. The only problem is that after I am windsurfing I do have a bit of extra pain.
I am only learning and using a big board. And till now have not used a harness.
My question is if I continue to surf will this slow the healing down?

Hope Ken can see this as well as any one who can help out.
